A snap election is a general election to the Legislative Assembly of Alberta with a polling day earlier than the fixed election day of October 18, 2027 under section 38.1 of the Election Act. A qualifying call is an announcement by the Premier or the Lieutenant Governor, or an order of the Lieutenant Governor in Council authorizing the issue of writs, that specifies an actual polling day. Calls for an election, speculation, a leadership review, or a loss of confidence without such a call do not qualify. The general election on the fixed date and by-elections do not qualify.
