If the United Kingdom agrees to or announces a trial of, or a full or partial lifting of, the ban on drinking alcohol within sight of the pitch at designated football matches in England or Wales before Jan 1, 2027, then the market resolves to Yes. The ban refers to the restriction on alcohol within view of the pitch at designated football matches under the Sporting Events (Control of Alcohol etc.) Act 1985. An announced trial or pilot, or a permanent lifting at only some designated matches, qualifies. A government commitment to a trial or lifting qualifies even if its details or timing remain subject to consultation; an announcement of only a review or consultation on whether to make a change does not qualify. An agreement or announcement qualifies if it involves any of the following: Formal signing of treaties Parliamentary approval with binding effect Official ratification Formal commitment by the head of state/government with constitutional authority Official statements by authorized ministers Official press releases Formal declarations during government proceedings Official statements to international bodies Phased implementation announcements and multi-party agreements where the country is a signatory also qualify. The following do NOT qualify: Preliminary discussions Conditional agreements contingent on circumstances Opposition party statements Leaked documents Think-tank recommendations General aspirations without specific commitment Draft legislation without approval Regional actions (unless specified) Retraction of previously announced commitments
